PEC posts 167% rise in net profit after tax tp $20m for 3Q

Plant and terminal engineering specialist PEC has reported a 167% rise in net profit after tax to $20.2 million for the financial quarter ended 31 March 2010 (3QFY2010) from $7.6 million in 3QFY2009.

OUE posts profit before tax of $23.7m in 1Q

Overseas Union Enterprise says it achieved a profit before tax of $23.7 million in 1Q 2010, a 173.9% increase from 1Q 2009. Including unrealised fair value gains on revaluation of the group’s investment properties and writeback of impairment on the group’s development property totalling $187.5 million taken in 1Q 2010, the group posted a PBT of $211.1 million.

OUE is a property player in Asia and an integrated property developer in Singapore with a portfolio of prime assets the retail, commercial, residential, and hospitality sectors.

Hupsteel back to black in 3Q with profit after tax of $1.2m

Hupsteel, the provider of steel products and services for the oil and gas, chemical and marine industries, has posted a profit after tax of $1.2 million for the quarter ended 31 March 2010 (3QFY10) compared to a loss of $2 million in 3QFY09. Revenue for the quarter stood at $39.8 million down from $50 million in 3QFY09.

StarHub posts 48% fall in profit after tax to $43m for 1Q

StarHub has posted a net profit after tax decreased to $43 million for the quarter ended 31 March 2010 (1QFY2010), a fall of 48% from $82 million in 1QFY2009. Total operating revenue increased 5% to $557 million in 1Q10 from $531 million 1Q09.

Noble Group (N21.SG) is off 2.6% at $2.95 as investors lighten positions ahead of supply chain manager’s 1Q10 results due Thursday, mull impact of Australia’s recent proposed tax reform for resources industry, according to Dow Jones.

US to probe thousands more offshore tax evaders

The US government expects to probe thousands more cases of wealthy individuals dodging taxes through offshore bank accounts, on top of the high profile case against UBS AG <UBS.N><UBSN.VX>, a US tax attorney said on Monday.

“We expect over the next couple of years, in addition to the UBS cases, to have somewhere between 4,000 and 7,000 more cases coming to us with. These are from banks and governments cooperating,” said Kevin Downing, a senior tax attorney of the US Department of Justice, in a lecture in Singapore.

QAF posts 2% fall in group profit after tax to $16.8m

QAF has posted a 2% fall in group profit after taxation of $16.8 million for the first quarter ended 31 March 2010 (1Q2010) compared to a group PAT of $17.1 million for 1Q2009.

Group net revenue increased by 2% to $198 million for 1Q2010 from $193.3 million in 1Q2009.

Broadway Industrial posts 121% rise in 1Q profit after tax to $12m

Broadway Industrial Group says it posted a 121.4% y-o-y increase in profit after tax and minority interest (PATMI) for the first quarter of 2010 (1Q2010) to $11.9 million from $5.4 million in 1Q2009. This was backed by 11.2% y-o-y growth in revenue to $151.1 million in 1Q2010 from $135.9 million in 1Q2009.

China Merchants posts 1Q net profit after tax of $17.8m

Toll road operator China Merchants Holdings (Pacific) today announced a net profit after tax of HK$100.8 million ($17.8 million) for the first quarter ended 31 March 2010, up 60% from the corresponding period last year.

Thomson Medical posts 22% growth in net profit after tax to $7.2m in 1H FY2010

Thomson Medical Centre, the private healthcare provider for women and children, says it posted a 22% y-o-y rise in net profit after tax to $7.2 million for the six months ending Feb 28 2010.

Yongnam Holdings posts 33% rise in profit before tax to record $49m for FY09

Yongnam Holdings, the structural steel contractor and specialist civil engineering solutions provider, announced a record profit before tax of $48.8 million for its full year ended December 31, 2009 (FY2009) on the back of a marginal 2.7% increase in revenue to $346.8 million. Yongnam says this is the fourth straight year of record performance since FY2006.

Gross profit rose 18% to $80.4 million compared to $68.1 million in FY2008 but 4Q gross profit was dented by cost overruns and stoppages at the Dubai Metro Rail project which was substantially completed by the end of FY2009.
