Telekom sale decision “won’t be reviewed”

Telecommunications Minister Jasna Matić has commented on a decision to extend the deadline for submission of bids in the Telekom Srbija tender until March 31. This did not mean that the Serbian government was reviewing its decision to sell the state-owned telecommunications company, she said in Belgrade on Friday.

Telekom bids deadline extended

The Serbian Finance Ministry’s working group for the privatization of Telekom has extended the deadline for submission of binding offers until March 31, 2011.

The deadline was extended in order to give more time to France Telecom, Deutsche Telekom and other participants to study the tender documents, the Finance Ministry announced.

“Economy to stabilize after Telekom sale”

The Serbian economy will stabilize when the state-owned Telekom Srbija telecommunications company has been sold, some analysts believe. In the meantime the standard of living of Serbians will not improve in 2011, with the Red Cross reporting the number of people using its soup kitchens increasing to some 30,000 from the previous figure of 21,000.

Telekom starting price set at EUR 1.4bn

The Serbian government decided on Thursday to set the minimum starting price for the sale of its 51 percent stake in Telekom Srbia at EUR 1.4bn. The government tasked the Finance Ministry and the working group for conducting the tender for the sale of state-owned telecommunications company shares with informing all participants in the tender for the privatization of the Serbian company about the initial price.

Government to set minimal Telekom price

The government will today set the minimum opening bid for the sale of 51 percent of its shares in Telekom Srbija. This should amount to approximately EUR 1.4bn, Serbian Minister of Economy Mlađan Dinkić announced on Wednesday, and expressed expectation that a higher bid will be offered in the course of the auction.

7 companies interested in Telekom

A total of seven companies have applied for a tender to buy a 51-percent stake in Telekom Srbije, the Finance Ministry announced, Beta reports. In a press release, the ministry said that Deutsche Telekom, France Telekom, Telekom Austria, America Mobile, Weather Investments Turkcell and Wimpelcom were interested in buying the stake.

Tadić asked to help shed light on Telekom sale

The Anti-Corruption Council has called on President Boris Tadić to exercise his authority and ask the government which Telekom Srbija assets are being sold.
The state-owned telecommunications company will be sold in a tender.

Weather Investments interested in Telekom

The Weather Investments telecommunications company, registered in Italy, is interested in acquiring Telekom Srbija, Serbian government sources told Beta. According to the sources, Weather Investments wishes to participate in the tender for the acquisition of 51 percent of the Serbian state-owned telecommunications comany shares but, before that, the commission that is carrying out the tender procedure has to grant them permission to buy the documents required for participation in the procedure.

“America Movil – better price for Telekom”

Telecommunications Minister Jasna Matić says the possible participation of America Movil in the Telekom sale could favorably affect its selling price.
“It is certainly good that there are many companies interested in purchasing Telekom Srbija and that all of them are big companies which have a large number of customers and which will be good strategic partners for Telekom,” Matić told B92.

America Movil to bid for Telekom?

A Serbian Finance Ministry official has announced that America Movil will buy tender documents in the process of the Telekom Srbija sale. State Secretary Vuk Đoković told Tanjug on Sunday that the U.S. company owned by Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim is expected to next week buy the documentation for the tender, that was called to sell a 51 percent stake in Serbia’s state-owned telecommunications company.

Economists say the reason for extending the deadline for the purchase of the Telekom tender documents is a lack of interest in the sale.

The Finance Ministry claims that the deadline, which was to expire today, was extended due to great interest of telecommunication firms in the acquisition of the Serbian state-owned company.

The Serbian government has extended the deadline for interested parties to buy the tender documents for the purchase of a 51 percent stake in Telekom Srbija. The deadline is now December 10, it was announced in Belgrade on Thursday.

“Telekom money should repay loans”

Minister of Economy Mlađan Dinkić stated that a part of the funds obtained through the privatization of the Telekom Srbija should repay unfavorable loans. The remainder should be invested into capital and infrastructure projects, he told a Novi Sad based Hungarian language daily.

3 companies buy Telekom documents

A Serbian government minister says that three companies had purchased the tender documentation for the sale of Telekom Srbija.
Minister of Telecommunications and Information Society Jasna Matić spoke in Belgrade on Wednesday and specified that the companies were Telekom Austria, Deutsche Telekom and France Telecom.

DSS in petition to stop Telekom sale

Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) has launched a petition, requesting the government to stop the sale of Telekom Srbija.

The DSS thinks that development of telecommunication infrastructure is in the interest of Serbian economy.

Telekom sale “not in Serbia’s best interest”

Anti-Corruption Council President Verica Barać says the coming sale of Telekom Srbija is not transparent and does not serve the best interests of Serbia. At a press conference, Barać told reporters that the government has not replied to a letter which the Anti-Corruption Council sent several month ago, in which it requested that the decision on the sale be made public and that the relevant ministry provides an explanation for proposing the sale of the state-owned telecommunications company.

Destruction of Telekom property halted

Serb enclaves south of the Ibar River are still without mobile and fixed phone services, as Priština authorities halted the disabling of Telekom property. The push to disable Telekom Srbija (Telecom Serbia) transmitters and base stations started on Sunday and continued on Monday, but the company said it was halted today.

Kosovo police and workers of the Kosovo telecommunications company are removing and destroying Telekom Srbija (Telecom Serbia) property in the province.
They have targeted both mobile and landline base stations in the Serb enclaves.

Austrian TV service to offer B92 Info channel

A1 Telekom Austria has added B92 Info to its cable television program. This will be the first time that B92 will be part of a cable TV service in a German-speaking country, and this also will be A1 Telekom Austria’s first news channel for the Serbian community in Austria and, after RTS Sat, the second Serbian language station on aonTV.

Opposition party against Telekom sale

The opposition SNS party has called on the government to scrap plans to sell its share in Telekom Srbija.
The country would suffer multiple damages to its economic interests if the sale went through, SNS official Marko Đurić told a news conference in Belgrade on Sunday.
