ST Telemedia buys stake in Malaysian 3G firm: Update

Singapore Technologies Telemedia will pay 1 billion ringgit ($421.9 million) for a 33% stake in U Mobile Sdn Bhd, including subscribing to a rights issue by the Malaysian 3G mobile services provider.

The acquisition is a “strategic decision” by ST Telemedia to build a strong business in Asia, said Lee Theng Kiat, ST Telemedia’s chief executive at a signing ceremony.

ST Telemedia to buy 33% stake in U mobile

Singapore Technologies Telemedia agreed to buy a 33% stake in U Mobile, a Malaysian mobile phone operator, from U Television, according to a joint statement from U Mobile and ST Telemedia.
 
The companies didn’t disclose the price of the sale.
 
ST Telemedia is a unit of Temasek Holdings.

ST Telemedia to buy Malaysia U Mobile stake, says The Star

Singapore’s ST Telemedia, a unit of investment company Temasek (TEM.UL), is to buy Malaysian tycoon Vincent Tan’s 33% stake in Malaysian 3G company U Mobile, The Star newspaper reported on Wednesday.

The Star said the deal by ST Telemedia, the parent of StarHub (STAR.SI), for the Malaysian company which is one of the four 3G spectrum holders here, could be worth 626 million ringgit ($258 million).
