SGX says exchanges launched tender for Asean trading link

Singapore Exchange said four Southeast Asian securities exchanges invited vendors to provide technology infrastructure for the Asean Trading Link, which it expects to launch toward the end of this year. The four exchanges are Bursa Malaysia, the Philippine Stock Exchange Inc., Singapore Exchange and the Stock Exchange of Thailand.

Shares in Thailand’s Sri Trang Agro-Industry (SRTA.SI), the world’s biggest rubber producer and exporter, fell 5% on Monday on the Thai stock exchange.

Sri Trang opens 4.2% lower in Singapore debut

Shares of Thailand’s Sri Trang Agro-Industry (SRTA.SI), the world’s biggest rubber producer and exporter, opened below their issue price on their Singapore debut on Monday.

Around 9:00 a.m., Sri Trang was traded at $ 1.17, which is roughly equal to 28 baht . The shares opened at $1.15 or about 4.2% below the Singapore issue price.

Thai Sri Trang sets Singapore IPO price at $1.20

Thailand’s Sri Trang Agro-Industry Pcl (STA.BK) said on Wednesday it had set its  Singapore initial public offering price (IPO) at S$1.20 per share, some way below the maximum price of $1.60 it had announced before book-building.

The company’s shares will resume trading in Bangkok at 11:30 a.m.

Sri-Trang Agro sets maximum offer price at $1.60 per share

Sri Trang Agro-Industry Pcl, Thailand’s biggest publicly traded rubber producer, set a maaximum offer price of $1.60 a share for its initial public offering in Singapore.

The company will raise as much as $448 million by selling 280 million shares, it said in a statement. The offer price will be fixed on Jan. 24, the company said.

Thai Bumrungrad says Temasek sells stake

Thai Bumrungrad Hospital Pcl says Temasek Holidings Limited (TEM.UL) sold 42.67 million shares in the company on Friday which could be worth $54 million, Bumrungrad told the stock exchange. It also reported another shareholder sold 49.13 million shares in the company, but it gave no name for the seller. According to the Stock Exchange of Thailand’s website, the shares were sold at 30 baht ($1.265) each.

Sri Trang said to seek $361m in Singapore sale: Update 2

Sri Trang Agro-Industry Pcl, the best performer on Thailand’s benchmark stock index last year, wants to raise about $280 million ($361 million) from a share sale in Singapore, according to a term sheet obtained by Bloomberg News.

Sri Trang, Thailand’s biggest publicly traded rubber producer, will sell as many as 280 million shares to individual and institutional investors, according to a prospectus sent to the Monetary Authority of Singapore today. The company in August delayed the sale, citing “volatility” in global equity markets.

Maybank buying Kim Eng for $1.8b to plug gap in broking

Maybank (MBBM.KL), Malaysia’s largest lender by assets, is snapping up Singapore broker Kim Eng Holdings for US$1.4 billion ($1.8 billion), in a move to strengthen its grip on the regional stock broking industry and diversify the lender’s source of overseas revenue.

The acquisition comes as Southeast Asian markets are on a roll, with Thailand and Indonesia ranking as the best performing major markets in Asia last year, spurred by foreign fund inflows and robust economic growth.

ST Engineering unit wins contract to supply automatic fare collection system for Bangkok MRT

ST Electronics says it has been awarded a contract to supply an Automatic Fare Collection System (AFCS) for the extension of the Bangkok Mass Transit System (BTS) Sukhumvit Line in Bangkok, Thailand.

The contract was awarded by The Krungthep Thanakom Company Limited (KT), a Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Enterprise.

ST Electronics is the electronics arm of public-listed ST Engineering.

Weekend Comment Dec 10: Switch from bonds to equity, says Nomura’s Darby

THERE IS A precedent for what is happening today in the markets. It’s a rerun of the early 1990s, says Sean Darby, Asia strategist at Nomura Securities. Back then, the newly-appointed Alan Greenspan at the Federal Reserve cut interest rates dramatically, setting off an enormous boom in emerging markets. “Thailand, Malaysia, Brazil — all those markets went up by nearly 100%,” Darby recalls, “What’s happening today is the same thing.”

GMG Global +4.8%; Tracking rubber prices higher

GMG Global (5IM.SG) is +4.8% at $0.325 trading with a higher-than-average volume of 32 million shares.

The rubber producer’s stock is benefiting from elevated rubber prices, with Tocom rubber futures nearing the 30-year highs hit last month; the gains are the result of tight supply in Thailand due to bad weather, and rising Chinese demand amid brisk auto sales, while the broader macro picture of stronger global PMIs, rising crude oil prices and loose monetary policy are boosting the liquidity flow into the commodities complex.

Spice i2i +4.0%; Charts tip signs of revival: Trader

Spice i2i (M09.SG) +4.0% at $0.130 in above-average volume; stock enjoying 4th session of gains (which breaks losing run since Nov. 18) after it announced the acquisition of NewTel Corp., the second largest local branded handset player in Thailand on Dec. 6.

“It may be early days yet, but the charts show a pickup in volume and the recent news flow on acquisitions show they’re broadening their business after their rights issue,” says a trader at a local house.
