SAN FRANCISCO& The Web 2.0 Summit 2010 boasted no shortage of star power for its keynote conversations hosted by show creators Tim O’Reilly and John Battelle. Google CEO Eric Schmidt kicked things off Nov. 15 by waving around a phone that appeared to be the Nexus S, an Android 2.3 handset allegedly from Samsung. Schmidt discussed a lot more topics and was careful to note that Google is being super careful about privacy. He noted that people have to explain when they’re joking, a reference to some flip comments he’s made that were taken literally. Tuesday, Nov. 16 was the master list of keynotes, including Shantanu Narayen, CEO of Adobe; HP Palm’s Jon Rubinstein, RIM co-CEO Jim Balsillie, Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz, and of course, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, whose company is arguably the hottest in the world in terms of pre-IPO buzz. Interspersed with this were several other events, including a semantic joust between venture capital whizzes John Doerr from Kleiner Perkins Caulfield and Byars and Union Square Ventures’ Fred Wilson, who argued over whether ideas or execution matter. The following alphabetical gallery lists the top 25 skills in technology with increased demand in pay for the third quarter. These are non-certified skills, meaning they dont necessarily require a technology worker to have a certification, yet they do require experience. These skills were sourced by Foote Partners, a Vero Beach, Fla., technology research company that tracks certified and non-certified IT skills.One certified skill that lost value over the summer was security, which had been the most resilient and consistently growing skill set for four straight years. David Foote, chief research officer and founder of Foote Partners, said the following in an Oct. 29 statement about the first decline and downward trend in security certifications since 2006:
“The decline in market values for [security] certifications that has suddenly appeared in our new benchmark research is simply an indication that Act One is coming to an end, not a sign that security talent is being devalued. Within Singapore, says Outperform-rated Keppel Corp (BN4.SG), Yangzijiang (BS6.SG), Sembcorp Industries (U96.SG), Sembcorp Marine (S51.SG) trading at 14%-31% discount to region on P/B to ROE valuation model. “In particular, Keppel Corp, our top pick in the Singapore capital goods sector, is trading at a 31% discount to the region and ranks highly in the undervalued list.
