Kosovo organ trafficking resolution adopted
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) today in Strasbourg voted to adopt a resolution based on the Marty report. 169 PACE members voted in favor, while 8 voted against the document. The resolution calls on the international community and governments in Belgrade, PriÅ¡tina, as well as in Albania, to “undertake measures” in order to clear up the crimes.
Organ trafficking investigator invited to EP
Council of Europe (CoE) rapporteur Dick Marty has been invited to address the European Parliament Foreign Affairs Committee. Tanjug news agency previously reported that it had learned unofficially that EP MPs invited Marty to testify on his report regarding the Kosovo organ trafficking case.

Turkish decision to release surgeon Yusuf Sonmez pending trial is shameful, said Association of the Serb Municipalities in Kosovo Deputy President Marko Jakšić.
He told Radio KiM that this would not help resolve crimes against the Serb civilians.
Organ trafficking doctor detained, released
A Turkish surgeon suspected of heading illegal human organ extraction and transplant surgeries in Kosovo was arrested in Istanbul. Reports from Turkey said that a court had released him from detention.
Albanians against organ trafficking report
Albanians are signing a petition against the report prepared by the Council of Europe rapporteur Dick Marty. The Swiss senator published the report late last year, naming Kosovo Albanian PM and former leader of the so-called Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) as being responsible for kidnappings of Serbs and other civilians in the province.
Arms trafficking accusations described as “racist slander”
Albanian PM Sali Berisha today in Tirana said a report linking him to arms smuggling in Kosovo was tantamount to “racist slander”. Belgrade daily Politika on Monday ran an article based on information it received from the Serbian War Crimes Prosecution, linking Berisha, then an opposition politician and former Albanian president, to selling arms illegally to the KLA in Kosovo in 1998.
“Contempt of court” urged over organ trafficking
National Hague Cooperation Council Chairman Rasim Ljajić says he will ask the Hague Tribunal to initiate “contempt of court proceedings”. They would be launched “against all those who interfered with the investigation into the illegal human organs trafficking in Kosovo”.

Committee adopts Kosovo organ trafficking report

Intl. conference on human trafficking
An international conference opened today in Belgrade to coincide with European Day Against Human Trafficking. The gathering is being held at the Serbian parliament building, and Speaker Slavica Äukić-Dejanović stated that this institution is an important partner in the implementation of the national mechanism for prevention of human trafficking, underscoring that there is no successful processing of those who exploit others or successful protection of victims without concrete laws.
Human trafficking discussed in Pristina
EULEX officials and representatives of the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and interior ministries of Serbia and Hungary met in PriÅ¡tina, say reports. They discussed trafficking of people from Kosovo to the EU member states, the Special Prosecutor for Organized Crime Miljko Radisavljević said in a statement in Belgrade on Thursday.
