Protest over Montengrin treatment of NGOs

Transparency International (TI) has asked Brussels and Podgorica to protect NGO activists from threats and intimidation.

TI is asking for protection for the activists of the Network for the Affirmation of the Non-governmental Sector (MANS) and has sent a protest letter to Montenegrin Prime Minister and Parliament Speaker Milo Đukanović and Ranko Krivokapić.

SGX proposes short sales report to increase market transparency

Singapore Exchange (SGX) says it is proposing new rules and measures to provide more information on short sales activities in the marketplace to facilitate greater market transparency.

SGX is also seeking public comments on the proposed rules that require the marking of all sell orders, either as a normal sell order or a short sell order. With the collated data, SGX proposes to report the short sales volume and value by counter for each trading day.

EU sets out new series of money measures

The EU has agreed to carry out transparency checks on the financial health of its top banks, euronews reports. This will be as part of a number of measures to convince investors it can contain the euro zone debt crisis.

Twitter Transparency Born at Chirp with 100M+ Users, @anywhere

Twitter’s Chirp conference April 14 was only the first, but it was a seminal event for a company that has traditionally shied away from sharing statistics. Twitter said its tweets are being archived in the Library of Congress, acknowledged 105.8 million users and formally launched @anywhere, its take on Facebook Connect, with Google, Amazon and media companies as partners. Promoted Tweets were also discussed. Forrester Research analyst Augie Ray said Twitter did its best work to endear itself to developers, which seemed to respond well.

GFIA shuns Chinese hedge-fund coverage for lack of transparency

GFIA Pte, the Singapore-based hedge-fund firm and consultant, said it stopped coverage of most Chinese hedge funds because they lack transparency and sold all of its investments with mainland Chinese managers, says Bloomberg.
The value of GFIA’s China-dedicated funds peaked at about US$3 million ($4.23 million), 10% of its portfolio, Peter Douglas, GFIA’s principal, said in a telephone interview. Douglas shifted coverage to Hong Kong-based managers with experience in the financial industry outside of Asia, from those in mainland China, he said.

SGX enhances SGXNet templates for greater marketplace transparency

Singapore Exchange today introduced changes to SGXNet announcement templates as part of its ongoing efforts in fostering a transparent and well-informed marketplace.

SGX says this is to assist investors in retrieving information crucial to their investment decisions and to increase the level of disclosure by issuers. These changes, which will be effective from Jan 10, comprise four new information categories and revisions to two existing announcement categories.
