Al Di Meola: Live CD, U.S. Tour

JAZZ GUITARIST RETURNS WITH LIVE FROM SEATTLE AND ELSEWHERE
ANNOUNCES TWO MONTH U.S. TOUR

Al Di Meola

Al Di Meola – the “guitarist of spectacular abilities” (NY Times) lauded both as musical trailblazer and technical virtuoso – will kick off a two-month U.S. tour on January 28, 2010 with his acoustic group World Sinfonia. The dates will follow on the heels of a new live album, Live From Seattle And Elsewhere, consisting entirely of Di Meola originals, and slated for full national release on January 12.

Mixing lush, tango-inspired romanticism – heavily influenced by late Argentine master Astor Piazzolla, a friend and mentor – with Latin influences drawn both from Spanish traditions and Di Meola’s own Italian heritage, Live From Seattle And Elsewhere expresses Di Meola’s considerable range.

Pat Metheny: New Album, Tour

PAT METHENY’S ORCHESTRION TO BE RELEASED JANUARY 26, 2010
2010 U.S. TOUR DATES ADDED

Pat Metheny

Seventeen-time Grammy Award-winner Pat Metheny once again explores new territory with his forthcoming project, Orchestrion. Following the album’s January 26, 2010 release on Nonesuch Records (February 9 on vinyl), the genre-shattering guitarist/composer will embark on an extensive solo tour, performing in arts centers and concert halls nationwide.

Orchestrion brings a musical idea from the late 19th and early 20th centuries — a large mechanical multi-instrument device that utilizes actual orchestral instruments of various types, called an “orchestrion” — to the technologies of today. Metheny’s concept includes a large ensemble of acoustic instruments — including several pianos, drum kit, marimbas, “guitar-bots,” dozens of percussion instruments, and even cabinets of carefully tuned bottles. Through Metheny’s guitar and compositional mind, five new original pieces showcase the instruments as they are struck, plucked, and otherwise played via the technology of solenoid switches and pneumatics. Metheny worked for months with a brilliant team of scientists and engineers to develop and assemble the New Orchestrion for this project.

“As the instruments started to trickle in from the various inventors,” Metheny says, “the experience of writing for them and figuring out what might be possible with them provided a self-imposed challenge that proved to be difficult and time-consuming, but absolutely exhilarating. I am excited to share this project. If nothing else, this has turned out to be something unique. And in the process of developing all this music and these instruments and discovering what they can do and what they are good at, I learned so much. It feels like progress and has gotten some notes out of me that I didn’t know were there. But the surprise was just how far I was able to go with it all. Within this new environment, I found something in there that took me to some new places.”

A limited-edition poster signed by Metheny is available now with Orchestrion CD or LP pre-orders, exclusively at the Nonesuch site to the first 500 customers. As always, CDs and LPs ordered from the Nonesuch Store include audiophile-quality (320 kbps) MP3s at no additional cost, available for download on release day.

Over the course of more than three decades Metheny has set himself apart from the jazz mainstream, expanding and blurring boundaries and musical styles. His record-setting body of work includes seventeen Grammy Awards in twelve separate categories; a series of influential trio recordings; award winning solo albums; scores for hit Hollywood motion pictures; and collaborations and duets with major artists such as Ornette Coleman, Steve Reich, Charlie Haden, Brad Mehldau, and many others. His band, the Pat Metheny Group, founded in 1977, is the only ensemble in history to win Grammys for seven consecutive releases.

HALL’S SELF-TITLED VANGUARD RECORDS DEBUT AVAILABLE NOW

“I just wanna melt away in all its grace, drift away to that sacred place where there’s no more you and me no more they and we just unity.”

From “Unity,” written by Trevor Hall and Matisyahu

Trevor Hall

After a series of sold-out shows over the summer, Trevor Hall is hitting the road again – this time with friends and artists who have also lent their voices on Hall’s new self-titled Vanguard CD (check it out for free below). Hall is on tour now with Michael Franti & Spearhead. On the heels of that tour, Hall joins up with his friend Colbie Caillat for the month of October. Caillat is featured on Hall’s new recording of “The Lime Tree.” Hall will be performing special acoustic sets with percussionist Chris Steele on the run with Caillat, and then rejoins his band for the month of November with dear friend Matisyahu, who co-wrote and performs on Hall’s song “Unity.” Hall also performed and co-wrote four songs that appear on Matisyahu’s new album, Light.

Trevor Hall is a breath of fresh air in today’s music scene. His new album, produced by Marshall Altman (Matt Nathanson, Kate Voegele, Marc Broussard), embodies a soulfulness, depth and passion far beyond his 22 years. The Mother Hips: New Album/Tour

THE MOTHER HIPS ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM PACIFIC DUST TO BE RELEASED OCTOBER 27, 2009

NEW RECORD MIXES PURE AMERICANA STORYTELLING WITH PSYCHEDELIC POWER POP

BAND ANNOUNCES FALL TOUR DATES

The Mother Hips

The Mother Hips have flown under the radar as true indie music pioneers for almost two decades. With the release of their new album Pacific Dust (available October 27 on Camera Records), California’s unsung psych-pop heroes tell their story. Hailed by critics for their “rootsy mix of ’70s rock and power pop” (Pitchfork) and for their unflinching ability to “sing it sweet and play it dirty” (New Yorker), on Pacific Dust The Hips’ signature sound rings more genuine and relevant than ever before.

The Hips – led by co-founders Tim Bluhm (vocals/guitar) and Greg Loiacono (guitar/vocals) – have been playing music for nearly 18 years, and in the process, have had the luxury of exploring and refining their craft. For the band’s seventh full-length studio album, The Mother Hips have never been more primed to share their well-traveled tales – the long days and nights on the road, the gritty politics, the smart inward reflections and the music! – all delivered with a most appealing balance of Americana storytelling and their California-burnished rock.

Pacific Dust‘s compositions about penning a song in your kitchen at 3:00 a.m. (the thundering album opener “White Falcon Fuzz”), record company politics (garage-rock boogie “Third Floor Story”), and a father and son’s relationship through music (on the ballad “Young Charles Ives”) indeed tell the story of many American rock bands. But here’s why it matters: The Mother Hips have survived, and in fact thrived, throughout the journey – and Pacific Dust, with its bittersweet melodies, poignant lyrics, and strong and gritty musicianship, is a perfect example of why.

The Mother Hips owe most of their success to their large and loyal fan base. Earlier releases such as Part-Timer Goes Full, Green Hills of Earth, and Red Tandy have become almost cult classics among indie music buffs, and the band’s most recent 2007 album, Kiss the Crystal Flake, offered proof that the band still continues to attract new supporters. Over the years, the band has worked with and played alongside a slew of renowned/respected colleagues including super-producer Rick Rubin, Wilco, Johnny Cash, and many others.

Today, armed with their newest release Pacific Dust, The Hips are poised to take their experience and talent to another level for this next leg of their already epic journey.

The Low Anthem Tour Dates

LOW ANTHEM CONTINUE WORLD TOUR WITH WEST COAST DEBUT, DATES WITH BLIND PILOT

The Low Anthem

It’s been a banner year for The Low Anthem. In addition to being JamBase’s New Favorite Artist this month, the Rhode Island trio spent the greater part of the year touring with acts such as Elvis Perkins In Dearland, Joe Pug, Ray LaMontagne, Josh Ritter, and Langhorne Slim in support of their highly praised Nonesuch debut, Oh My God, Charlie Darwin, the band is gearing up for yet another stretch on the road, this time with the Portland group Blind Pilot. This run of 21 club and theater dates begins October 15 and continues through November 12 and includes the band’s West coast debut. Additionally, The Low Anthem will return to NYC for a performance at the Bell House at the end of August and travel to Europe for a month-long tour in September, where they’ve already played to much enthusiasm at Glastonbury, sold out a show at Union Chapel in London, and received stellar reviews in Uncut, Q, Mojo, NME, The Guardian, and The Independent.

The very special Avon Cinema in Providence, RI is hosting the first October U.S. tour date. The Cinema is a beautiful old movie theatre, the perfect setting for the band’s anticipated homecoming show and largest performance in Providence to date. The band will also be playing a free show on Block Island, where they recorded Charlie Darwin.

The Low Anthem’s most recent tour has taken them through a number of prestigious festivals, including Bonnaroo, Glastonbury, Lollapalooza, and the recent 50th Anniversary of the Newport Folk Festival, where they had humble beginnings working as recycling crew. This time around they got to share the stage with some of their heroes, including Pete Seeger, Arlo Guthrie, and Gilian Welch during a group sing-along.

THE LOW ANTHEM PRESS:

“Only a band since 2006, the depth of songwriting and ability to cross the dusty Americana landscape from such burdened acoustic folk songs like “To Ohio” to country barnburners, delicate three-part harmonies dripping with reverb, a Tom Waits cover, and soul-saving gospel without loosing continuity makes The Low Anthem worthy of all the hype they are sure to receive…” – JamBase

“Stately… Lyrics contemplating faith, loss, destruction and self-destruction.” – New York Times

“One of the breakthrough albums of 2009… A highly eventful journey into American songcraft, variously echoing Dylan, Springsteen, The Band, and Tom Waits.” – MOJO

“Really beautiful… The great music, it’s not what you play; it’s what you don’t play.” – Billy Bragg (PROJO)

Magnolia Electric Co. Album/Tour

MAGNOLIA ELECTRIC CO.’S Josephine Now Up For Pre-Order
Includes Free Digital Download For Exclusive 7-inch

Magnolia Electric Co.

Now is the time to stake your claim on a copy of Josephine, the first LP from Magnolia Electric Co. in three years. Pre-orders of the album will come with a free, digital download of the 2009 limited-pressing 7-inch, It’s Made Me Cry. The 7-inch is a bit of an interlude into It’s Made Me Cry.

Like on the 7-inch, Josephine is also an experiment in Molina’s songcraft, introducing some real lessons in brevity as he whittles a handful of tracks into well-under three minutes, all while taking cues from great songsmiths like Willie Nelson and Warren Zevon.

Next week, Magnolia Electric Co. will set off on a North American tour with San Diego’s The Donkeys, a tour that includes a two-night stand in Molina’s beloved Chicago.
