Fans will get a chance to check out some of their favorite bands in Steamboat Springs, CO U.S.A. during the 2011 Bud Light Rocks the Boat Free Concert Series, now
entering its 12th season.

The North Mississippi Allstars, Sam Bush, Lukas Nelson & The Promise of the Real,
John Popper and the Duskray
Troubadors, Los Lonely Boys,
Katchafire and The Wailers grace the stage with their
high-energy on-stage performances in the heart of Gondola Square.

All concerts begin at 3:00 pm, unless otherwise noted, in Gondola Square at the base of the Steamboat
Ski Resort.

Apple iPhone’s Top 10 Grossing Apps in 2010

Apple has released a list of its top-grossing iPhone apps in 2010. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the list is dominated by entertainment apps, particularly games. Of the more productivity-related programming, iPhone and iPod Touch users evidently placed a high premium on navigation, shelling out $50 for the TomTom U.S.A. app, optimized for the iPhone 4, and free worldwide VOIP (voice over IP) calls. Baseball also ranked high, with many users downloading the MLB.com At Bat app. Despite a growing challenge from Google Android, Apple remains strong in the consumer smartphone space. Third-party developers have flocked to the company’s App Store as a revenue generator, populating the online storefront with hundreds of thousands of apps. As a result, an app exists for many of life’s tasks big and small. Paul McCartney has announced two new performance dates, the first at San Francisco’s AT&T Park on Saturday, July 10, and then at the Rio Tinto Stadium in Salt Lake City on Tuesday, July 13, as part of his ‘Up and Coming’ 2010 tour. Keeping with his headline-making special concerts over the last few years, the tour will see the iconic star and his band play unique venues, places and locations; new cities he’s never played and familiar markets he’s not visited for a while.

The July 10 concert at AT&T Park will be McCartney’s first performance within the city of San Francisco since The Beatles’ last concert tour appearance at Candlestick Park on August 29, 1966.

The July 13 concert date in the Rio Tinto Stadium setting will be Paul’s first-ever performance in Utah.

HAPPY 77TH BIRTHDAY, RED HEADED STRANGER!!!

Willie Nelson is a treasure, pure and simple. One of the strongest, coolest voices to ever emerge from the country world, Nelson is also a ferociously talented guitarist, top notch songwriter, tireless performer and an inspired interpreter of other’s material on par with greats like Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra. Yesterday, Willie turned 77-years-old and we couldn’t let the occasion pass without tipping our hat to him. In his honor, we’ve rolled up a sampling of some choice moments in his long, long career. Damn, we’re glad we’ve shared this past near-century with you, mister!

We begin with a smoking version of one of Willie’s most beloved songs.

Beneath the braids and clouds of smoke, Nelson can be one smooth character. He draws from Brazilian and tango strains on this number, which features Emmylou Harris.

No salute to Willie would be complete without this one, but we’re gonna let his friend and fellow Highwayman handle this one. Nifty, slightly melancholy reading.

The man really sings about drinking very, very well.

Willie has done his part to keep the tradition of cowboy songs alive. Here he is with pal Johnny Cash singing one of the finest trail tunes ever.

It’s not just for Muppets anymore! This is the sort of thing that makes Willie an adored icon across MANY generations.

Here’s “The Lost Highwaymen” – Keith Richards, Hank Williams III, Ryan Adams and Willie – doing a Stones classic.

Willie has done duets with nearly every noteworthy singer of the past 50 years. He seems to live and breath when entwining his voice with another’s, but as far afield as he’s roamed, this pairing with Sinead O’Connor on Peter Gabriel’s tune couldn’t have been predicted.

Nelson has made a number of films but this is the only one with Morgan Fairchild.

We wrap with a little ditty that Patsy Cline made famous but Willie penned. Classic stuff, but one can say that about a lot of things with Willie.

ROBERT PLANT AND THE BAND OF JOY TO TOUR U.S.A.

JULY SHOWS TO INCLUDE MATERIAL FROM NEW ROUNDER ALBUM

Robert Plant has confirmed a 12 city North American tour. Beginning in July, this first leg of shows, which will be followed by further dates in the fall, will preview material from a new album. Featuring a diverse group of musicians – Patty Griffin, vocals; Darrell Scott, multi-instrumentalist/vocals; Byron House, bass/vocals; Marco Giovino, drums and percussion/vocals; including co-producer Buddy Miller, guitar/vocals. The album is set for release on Rounder, late summer/early fall.

Kicking off in Memphis on July 13 (see full tour schedule below) the tour will feature Plant and the ‘Band of Joy’ – the same musicians who also appear and play on the album.

Says Plant: “It’s been a blast working on these new songs… and I’m enjoying such creativity and vitality. It’s been a remarkable change of direction for all of us and as a group we all seem to have developed a new groove.”

In recent weeks Plant has been in the studio working on the planned release, which will be his first since Raising Sand, the multi-platinum, six-time Grammy winning collaboration with fellow Rounder artist Alison Krauss. Krauss has most recently been recording with her longtime band Union Station, and will be touring with them this summer. The pair do not expect to announce a new album or tour in the coming year, though when asked about the collaboration, Plant says: “Oh yes, Alison and I get together quite often… and sometimes we dance.”
