The EU will most likely approve the start of the ratification process for the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA). Once Hague Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz gives his report on Serbia’s cooperation with the Tribunal, the EU Council of Ministers is expected to approve the ratification process of the SAA with Serbia, officials of the Spanish presidency told journalists in Brussels.

Political parties on unfreezing of ITA
The parties of Serbia’s ruling coalition are hailing the EU decision to unblock the Interim Trade Agreement (ITA). At the same time, some opposition parties are minimizing the importance of the move.
Mirel: Chances for unfreezing agreement good
European Commission Director for the Western Balkans Pierre Mirel said that there is a good chance that the interim trade agreement will be unfrozen. Pack: Unfreezing of agreement possible
European Parliament MP Doris Pack said that the unfreezing of the interim trade agreement between Serbia and the EU is “more possible than every before.†She said that she “personally hopes†that the EU Foreign Ministers will approve the unfreezing of the agreement at their meeting in Brussels on Monday and Tuesday.
“Trade deal unfreezing almost certain”
Belgrade Daily Danas writes that the interim trade agreement between Serbia and the EU will “almost certainly” be activated at the EU summit on Dec. 10. According to the daily’s sources, the Netherlands intends to agree to unfreezing the agreement, which is the economic part of the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA), and which Serbia has been implementing unilaterally since January.
Germany supports unfreezing of SAA
Germany explicitly supports Serbia’s entry into the European Union, said German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Beta reports. But, she continued, Berlin also believes that there is a “logical order of steps” on every country’s path toward integration.

Slovak Foreign Minister Miroslav LajÄak said that there is reason for “careful optimism†regarding the potential unfreezing of the SAA. “I think that positive progress has been made, and everyone now is expecting the new report from chief prosecutor Serge Brammertz. I think that there are reasons for careful optimism,†LajÄak told Belgade daily VeÄernje Novosti regarding the chances that the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) between Serbia and the EU could be implemented.
Rehn calls for unfreezing of trade deal
European Enlargement Commission Olli Rehn says that Serbia deserves to have its Interim Trade Agreement with the EU unfrozen. He said that it would be “merited and fair†to allow Serbia to continue its EU integration, stressing that he was convinced that Hague Tribunal Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz would confirm full cooperation between Belgrade and the court provided that cooperation existed.
Äelić hopeful of interim deal unfreezing
Deputy Prime Minister Božidar Äelić expects EU members to discuss the unfreezing of the Interim Trade Agreement with Serbia by the end of the year.
Addressing the Swedish Foreign Affairs Institute in Stockholm, Äelić said that he was convinced that Serbia would be on the white Schengen list next year.

EC calls for unfreezing of interim agreement
The European Commission has called on the EU to implement the Interim Trade Agreement with Serbia in Brussels today. In its annual progress report on the Western Balkan states, the EC states that the authorities in Belgrade have proven their commitment to EU integration, are implementing the trade agreement, and are consistently cooperating with the Hague Tribunal.
