Unions urge more negotiations

The Confederation of Autonomous Trade Unions (SSSS) has called on the government to agree to a new round of negotiations on demands tabled by striking teachers. The SSSS supports the actions of the Serbian Education Union in its effort to improve the position and living standard of education employees, according to a statement in Belgrade on Tuesday.

Unions warn of deteriorating standard of living

Serbia is facing a continual drop in living standards, which could become even more pronounced in 2011, as two million people are living in poverty right now. This is according to trade union representatives, who met on Monday at a Tanjug roundtable, entitled “The social map and the standard of the Serbian population in the economically difficult 2011″.

Govt., unions say they reached agreement

PM Mirko Cvetković and representatives of trade unions today in Belgrade reached an agreement on proposed changes to the pension law, said reports. The government announced in a statement that the meeting concluded that the government would in the next two weeks set up two working groups, made up of its members and those from the unions.

Serbian police unions freeze strike

Representatives of police unions decided to freeze the announced strike after a several-hour meeting with Interior Minister Ivica Dačić.

President of the Independent Police Union Velimir Barbulov told B92 that the government had agreed to pay each MUP employee bonus worth RSD 10,000 for November and December.
