Mechanical shark from Spielberg’s ‘Jaws’ found

The mechanical shark that had featured in Steven Spielberg’s 1975 movie ‘Jaws’ has been found after a decades-long search for it.
The three shark models initially built for the film, which were all dubbed “Bruce” after Speilberg’s lawyer, Bruce Ramer, were said to have been destroyed after filming.

The city-state’s new casino cost a fortune but looks well-timed

WITH its three high-rise towers topped by a sweeping open-air SkyPark, the Marina Bay Sands casino, which opened on April 27th, is a striking addition to the Singapore skyline. It also symbolises an interesting, and potentially risky, new phase in the city-state’s highly successful government-led industrial policy.

The government has identified tourism as having big potential for growth, and offering visitors the opportunity to gamble is seen as a crucial part of its plan. Genting Singapore off 1.6%; eyes on Marina Bay Sands

Genting International (G13.SG) off 0.5% at $0.915 on moderate volume, says Dow Jones.

Since hitting March high of $0.965 two weeks ago, driven by opening of Universal Studios theme park, stock has been drifting lower on weaker volume as players not inclined to stay invested since Sentosa casino-resort newsflow already priced in.

Genting Singapore off 2.2%; near-term rebound unlikely

Genting Singapore (G13.SG) is off 2.2% at 90 cents, surrendering part of 8.9% gains made since Friday, when gaming group said Universal Studios theme park in Resorts World Sentosa will open from March 18.

While the stock has bounced off 7-month low of 83.5 cents set last week, sustained recovery after 29.2% fall year-to-date appears unlikely in near-term, with investors now looking for Resorts World to start making contributions to Genting’s bottomline.

Genting Singapore gains most in 5 months on Universal Studios

Genting Singapore Plc gained by most in five months after announcing that the Universal Studios theme park at its casino resort in the city-state.
 
Genting advanced 7.1% to 90.5 cents, the most since Sept. 22. The stock has slumped 30% this year, the worst performer on the benchmark Straits Times Index.

Singapore casino, theme park await licenses to open, Lim says

Genting aims to attract 4.5m visitors annually with theme park

Genting Singapore Plc (GENS SP), the builder of one of two casino resorts, aims to attract about 4.5 million visitors a year when its Universal Studios theme park opens next year, the local press reported, citing Douglas Trueblood, general manager of sales and marketing for Universal Parks and Resorts.

Genting has not fixed ticket prices. Based on a Morgan Stanley estimate of S$70 per ticket, the reports said annual ticket sales may reach $315 million. Genting is trading at $1.12.
