“UN mission ready to support Kosovo organ probe”

UNMIK is ready to fully support a probe into the Kosovo organ trafficking, the latest report of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon says, according to reports. It also expresses the expectation that progress will soon be made towards opening the Belgrade-Priština dialogue which has not yet begun due to the toppling of the Kosovo government.

“Hague Tribunal should investigate UNMIK”

Head of the National Council for Cooperation with the Hague Tribunal Rasim Ljajić has stated that he expects a contempt of court proceedings against UNMIK. He says that UNMIK heads should be charged with contempt of court for concealing evidence in the case of human organ trafficking in Kosovo.

Kouchner: I knew nothing about organ trade

First UNMIK Chief and Former French FM Bernard Kouchner says he did not know about the illegal human organ trade.

“I am skeptical about Dick Marty’s report,” he told BBC.

Zannier to represent UN in negotiations

UNMIK Chief Lamberto Zannier said he would represent the UN in the future dialogue between Belgrade and Priština. He said that in correspondence with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton.

“Albanians unwilling to cooperate with UNMIK”

Some Kosovo authorities became less willing to cooperate with UNMIK in northern Kosovska Mitrovica following the ICJ opinion, UNMIK Head Lamberto Zannier says.

Presenting a report on Kosovo which covers the period from July 16 to October 18 to the UN Security Council on Friday, Zannier said that the UNMIK administration in northern Kosovska Mitrovica faced several challenges during this time.

“UNMIK still has important role”

UNMIK still plays an important role in Kosovo in spite of its reconfiguration and reduction, UNMIK Chief Lamberto Zannier has stated in Washington.

Zannier told Washington-based radio station Voice of America (VOA) that the UNMIK was the most politicized of all UN peacekeeping missions and that its major goal was to introduce reconciliation and stability in the field.

According to Geekie, UNMIK supports and encourages depoliticized talks on technical issues, but it is up to Priština and Belgrade to decide how the talks will go, KiM Radio reported.

Kosovo president meets with UNMIK chief

Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu met with UNMIK Chief Lamberto Zannier to ask for the mission to slowly wind down its work in Kosovo. According to reports, Sejdiu also talked about the process of Kosovo recognition and the process of increasing the speed of integration for Kosovo into the European Union and United Nations.

FM: Kosovo in Sarajevo only with UNMIK

Serbia finds it unacceptable for Kosovo to be represented in Sarajevo as a sovereign state, says Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremić.

Belgrade wants UNMIK to intervene

Telecommunications Minister Jasna Matić called on UNMIK to stop any further disabling of Serbian mobile phone networks in Kosovo. In a letter sent to UNMIK Chief Lamberto Zannier, Matić is asking for UNMIK to establish control over the telecommunications sector in Kosovo, stating that a regulatory body of the ethnic Albanian government in Kosovo is violating UN Resolution 1244.

UN chief: Global support vital for UNMIK

The continuing and global support for the UN mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) is of key importance, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said in his latest report. The continuing support for UNMIK activities by Priština and by Belgrade, as well as by the Security Council and the broader international community, is of crucial importance, he writes in the report to the Council, in which he voices concern at possible increased tensions in northern Kosovo, it was posted on the UN website.

UNMIK chief: Relations with Priština improved

Spanish Ambassador Inigo de Palacio Espana today addressed the issue of participation of Kosovo Albanian officials at EU-organized gatherings. The top Spanish diplomat in Belgrade said the authorities in Priština can be present at international conferences organized by the EU only under the UNMIK auspices and in accordance with UNSC Resolution 1244.
