UNMIK Chief Lamberto Zannier said at the UN Security Council session that the situation in Kosovo is peaceful and stable. However, he said that there is a possibility of destabilization in the north.
UNMIK to remain in Kosovo
Priština daily Infopress said that the UN mission in Kosovo, UNMIK, will be in Kosovo for another year at least, if not longer. “Even though the authorities of UNMIK have faded, the mission will remain in Kosovo, and Resolution 1244 is still active, while the closing of the mission will be very hard because it needs the approval of Russia,†the daily adds.

UNMIK “committed to return of IDPs”

An office designed to create benefits and support communities has become the “savior” of UNMIK’s political activities in Kosovo, writes a local daily. “The office, opened at the beginning of this month, enables UNMIK not to give up on its political activities in Kosovo, despite the reduction of its staff,” Albanian language newspaper Koha Ditore says.
