Wilmar down on property ventures

Shares of Wilmar International (WLIL.SI), the world’s largest listed palm oil firm, fell as much as 2.4% on Wednesday after it said it will invest around 889.2 million yuan ($175 million) in property joint ventures in China.

At 9:11 a.m., Wilmar shares were down 2.2% at $5.79 on a volume of 3.6 million shares.

Olam eyes 15-20% vol growth; sugar, palm ventures

Diversified commodities company Olam International (OLAM.SI) is aiming to boost production volume by 15-20% annually as it plans expanding into upstream sugar and palm oil ventures, its chief executive said on Friday.

Group managing director and CEO Sunny Verghese said Olam was eyeing 10,000 hectares of sugar plantations in Indonesia, Brazil or Africa to enable it to set up crushing plant with a yearly capacity of at least 2 million tonnes.

k1 Ventures posts net loss of $2.5m for 1Q

k1 Ventures, a unit of Keppel Corporation, reported a net loss of $2.54 million for the first quarter of 2010 compared to a net profit of $638,000 a year ago.

Revenue fell 25% to $14.20 million. The decline in revenue was a result of a decrease in subsidiary, Helm Holding Corporation’s leasing revenue and interest income from fixed deposits, offset in part by the sale of investments.

eBay, Skype Settle IP Suits with Joltid, sans Index Ventures

eBay settles lawsuits with Joltid and Joost in a $1.9 billion deal that gives Skype ownership over all software previously licensed from Joltid and paves the way for a group of investors to acquire the majority of the company. Joltid and Skype founders Niklas Zennström and Janus Friis, who had earlier tried to buy Skype back from eBay, will join the investor group, contributing Joltid software and making a capital investment in exchange for a 14 percent stake in Skype. Silver Lake and fellow investors Andreessen Horowitz and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board will grab 56 percent of Skype, with eBay retaining the remaining 30 percent.

Google is bringing its Going Google advertising initiative for Google Apps to train stations, airports, and print and online publications in the U.S., as well as in Australia, Canada, France, Japan, Singapore and the U.K. The expansion of Going Google comes days after Google CEO Eric Schmidt said he had green-lit the enterprise team for aggressive expansion into 2010, which could include some acquisitions of technology and talent in addition to the organic growth of the talent pool.
