Diaspora lobbies for abolishment of UK visas

The Serbian Ministry for the Diaspora supports the initiative of the Serbian City Club in Great Britain to abolish British visas for Serbian citizens.

This would also contribute to better political, economic and cultural relations between the two countries, the ministry said in a statement.

Croatia lifts visas for Albanians

The Croatian government has decided to abolish visas for the citizens of Albania as of next year, ATA news agency reported.

Serbia and Israel abolish visas

Serbia and Israel have signed a visa-free travel regime between the two countries, and it will come into effect tomorrow. The Israeli embassy in Belgrade announced this Monday that Serbian citizens will no longer need visas to travel to Israel and stay in that county for up to three months.

Dual office controversy and EU visas

GRECO Council head Drago Kos it is unlikely that EU would reintroduce visas for Serbians due to the amendments to the Law on the Anti-Corruption Agency. U.S. embassy to issue 10-year visas

Dačić talks visas with UK official

Britain will support Serbia’s EU accession, State Minister for Europe Chris Bryant has stated in talks with Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dačić. During the late Thursday meeting in London, Bryant and Dačić agreed that Serbia’s EU accession is important not only for Serbia but for Europe as well, due to the values the country will bring to the EU.

Top 25 Companies with H-1B Visas in 2009

A mix of U.S. and Asian-based technology, financial and consulting companies top the list of enterprises that have applied for and received approval for H-1B visas in 2009.

There are at least 200 companies that applied for H-1B visas in 2009. The major technology companies that did not rank in the Top 25, but did rank in the Top 50 include Yahoo, Amazon, Apple, Texas Instruments, Nvidia and IBM.

Some of the leading research universities in the United States also rank in the Top 50. Some of the top H-1B visa obtainers this year included University of Maryland, University of Michigan, Johns Hopkins, University of Illinois, University of Pennsylvania, Yale, Stanford, Harvard, University of Pittsburgh, Columbia, and Baylor College of Medicine.

Visas no longer needed for Schengen area

Serbian citizens with biometric passports are able to travel to countries of the EU Schengen area without visas as of Saturday, December 19. After two decades, Serbian citizens will not need visas to enter most countries of the European Union.

“UK visas could be abolished in 2011″

British Ambassador to Belgrade Stephen Wordsworth said that the visa regime the citizens of Serbia could be abolished in 2011. “Britain is not a part of the Schengen Area. Our border services estimate immigration risk every year, and as a result we abolish visas for some countries and introduce them for others,” the ambassador said.

“All EU countries should abolish visas”

Serbia expects that those EU member-states which do not belong to the Schengen Area will also lift their visa requirements for the Serbian citizens. Final decision on visas expected Monday

The EU Council of Interior and Justice Ministers will make a decision on Monday regarding the abolishment of visas for Serbia, Montenegro, and Macedonia. Serbian officials expect that the decision will represent a signal of political acceptable of Serbian citizens into the European family.

European Parliament Rapporteur for Serbia Jelko Kacin praised Macedonia and called on the country to help Kosovo get on the Schengen white list. The Slovenian politician commended Macedonia’s success of being the first country in the region to complete the plan for abolishing visas for the EU, “which positively influenced Montenegro and Serbia to make up for what they missed”.

“Decision on visas Nov. 30 or Dec. 1″

The decision to abolish EU visas for Serbian citizens should be made November 30 or December 1, Interior Minister Ivica Dačić said Tuesday. Dačić, who is also first deputy PM in the Cvetković cabinet, said that the decision would come into force on December 19.
