American Aquarium & Sons of Bill Spring Tour

AMERICAN AQUARIUM AND SONS OF BILL “LIFE IN SHAMBLES” SPRING TOUR
2010

American Aquarium

As complicated as life in 2010 may have become, it’s some comfort to know there are still simple guys out there
playing simple music. Simple guys that can go out any night of the week and put together a rock and roll show we
can all believe in. It was as simple as James Wilson (Sons of Bill) making contact with
BJ Barham (American
Aquarium
) at the end of 2009 to propose a tour for their bands that would help further bond a growing
community of music fans around their roots/Americana/alt-country songwriting and performances. The hope is
that this will not just be another lineup at the bar, but rather a chance to celebrate a new school of bands that are
tending the vibrant traditions of rock and country music and the sense of community they can foster, especially in
hard times. As a tongue-in-cheek testament to the times, the boys in the bands thought it appropriate to call this
tour “Life in Shambles.”

The tour kicks off in Raleigh, NC on May 1 to celebrate the release of American Aquarium’s new record,
Small Town Hymns (Last Chance Records). The entourage will then continue along a three week run that covers the East Coast with each band taking the closing slot on different nights. There will certainly
be cold beers consumed, collaborations and conspiracies, and some kick ass rock and roll played at high volumes.

American Aquarium & Sons of Bill “Life in Shambles” Spring Tour 2010:

05/01/10 Sat The Pour House Music Hall Raleigh, NC

05/02/10 Sun New Brookland Tavern West Columbia, SC

05/04/10 Tue Skipper’s Smokehouse Tampa, FL

05/05/10 Wed Jack Rabbits Jacksonville, FL

05/06/10 Thu Peachtree Tavern Atlanta, GA

Balkan Beat Box‘s highly anticipated new set, Blue Eyed Black Boy, is due out April 27 on Nat Geo Music. The album follows 2007′s Nu Med.

Blue Eyed Black Boy was recorded in Tel Aviv and Belgrade in the midst of anti-Kosovo riots.

“It was a very tense atmosphere, but we were in our studio, away from all that, translating that intense energy into something positive and good,” says Ori Kaplan, saxophone player and 1/3 of the Balkan Beat Box trio.

Self-produced by Balkan Beat Box, Blue Eyed Black Boy features a variety of musical instruments and guest appearances, including a local gypsy orchestra from Belgrade called Jovica Ajdarevic Orkestar. The album combines the musical elements of Mediterranean and Balkan traditions with hip hop beats and punk influences.

“It’s always amazing when the three of us get together in the studio,” says Kaplan. “It’s a great dynamic that none of us ever had before in a band, a true collaboration. Each of us has his specialty, Tamir brings the beats and production, Tomer is the lyricist, and I do the melodies and the horns. We bring these three elements together so naturally. We trigger off each other.”

Balkan Beat Box will bring their live show to the U.S. with a handful of tour dates in March.

Drive-By Truckers Tour Free MP3 & Album Details

DRIVE-BY TRUCKERS ANNOUNCE NEW TOUR DATES IN SUPPORT OF

THE BIG TO-DO DUE OUT MARCH 16 / FREE MP3 AVAILABLE

Drive-By Truckers

The Drive-By Truckers announce the first part of The Big To-Do tour, screenings of their documentary, The Secret To A Happy Ending, unveil the album cover for The Big To-Do and offer free MP3.

The Big To-Do is slated for release on March 16, 2010 on ATO Records. Leading up to the release the band will play some weekend runs before kicking off The Big To-Do tour with a two night stand in Atlanta and then heading to SXSW. More dates to be announced in the coming weeks.

DBT and ATO Records are offering up the first single, “This Fucking Job,” from The Big To-Do for free: download.atorecords.com/dbt/this_fucking_job.mp3

The premiere screening of the DBT documentary, The Secret To A Happy Ending, is scheduled for February 5, 2010 at AFI Silver Theatre in Silver Spring, MD. This is a film about the redemptive power of rock & roll; it’s about the American South, where rock was born; it’s about a band straddling the borders of rock, punk and country; it’s about making art, making love and making a living; it’s about the Drive-By Truckers. Director Barr Weissman, Patterson Hood, Mike Cooley and Brad Morgan will be on hand for a Q&A after the screening.

This is the seventh DBT album that has featured original artwork by Wes Freed. The band has a very special relationship with Wes, they never tell him what to draw and often give him no input at all, yet he always seems to find some subtext, often one they didn’t know was there, that he brings out and runs with. That relationship has hit a new level on this album, as he basically illustrated every song. He honed in on the circus allusions of The Rock Show and how it all could be tied together in The Big To-Do. Look for more pieces to be unveiled in the weeks prior to release date.
