Nels Cline Singers Tour

HIGH SIERRA, PHILLY, NYC AND WILCO’S OWN FEST ON AGENDA

Nels Cline Singers

The Nels Cline Singers first planned tour dates to support their new release, Initiate (arriving April 13). These dates include the band’s first ever South American tour, an appearance at the High Sierra Music Festival, a full night at New York City’s (le) poisson rouge, a night in Philadelphia at Johnny Brenda’s, the Singers’ first ever Washington, D.C. date at The Black Cat, and finally, an appearance in August in Western Massachusetts at Mass MoCA as part of the Wilco-curated Solid Sound Festival. Nels Cline Singers are Nels Cline (guitar), Scott Amendola (drums, electronics) and Devin Hoff (bass). Guests on the live disc include Yuka Honda (Cibo Matto), Greg Saunier (Deerhoof), John Dieterich (Deerhoof) and Satomi Matsuzaki (Deerhoof).

Nels will also make his Village Vanguard debut as a sideman with his longtime friend and musical associate violinist Jenny Scheinman [a JamBase fave along with Nels and his Singers] with her band Mischief and Mayhem July 13-18.

Chemical Bros: New Album 6/08

THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS WILL RELEASE NEW ALBUM FURTHER ON JUNE 8,
2010

The Chemical Brothers

The Chemical Brothers are
set to release their seventh studio album, Further, on June 8, 2010 on Freestyle Dust/Astralwerks. This album is the band’s first to be released with corresponding films made specifically to match each of the 8 audio
tracks. The films will be included on an iTunes LP and special edition DVD.

Nearly three years on from the release of their Grammy Award winning and fifth consecutive U.K. Number 1 album We Are The Night, Further sees Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons explore the boundless possibilities of
their sound. Taking a trip through four decades of electronic noise, Tom & Ed have taken the template set up with
their occasional Electronic Battle Weapon releases and allowed them to mutate gloriously into an entire
album. Voice samples and snatches of vocals are woven through tracks to create a record that ebbs and flows like
one of the band’s legendary live sets. Here, West Coast power pop harmonies sit beside German Motorik rhythms
while My Bloody Valentine-esque sonic manipulations plane across the top of early house bass lines. Further is the culmination of nearly two decades of psychedelic exploration, an immersive collection that
finds The Chemical Brothers at their least-restrained and most-melodic best.

As well as an eight-track album, Further is the band’s first proper partnership with long-time visuals
collaborators Adam Smith and Marcus Lyall. Now a respected TV and film director, Adam – aka Flat Nose George –
has been responsible for creating the visual backdrop for every Chemical Brothers gig since their live debut in 1994.
Visuals for Further have been created to correspond with each track on the album and have been planned
during the recording of the record.

The band will play four shows at London’s Roundhouse in May. These will be the first opportunities for fans to see
the band play the album with Smith and Lyall’s new films in sequence and in their entirety. The band will also play
select festivals in Europe including Sonar Festival in Barcelona before coming to the U.S. for summer dates including
gigs at the Hollywood Bowl on August 29 and Electric Zoo at Randall’s Island in New York City on September 4.

Alan Charing: Stitch Out Now

ALAN CHARING FIRST RECORD IN SIX YEARS, STITCH, OUT NOW

Alan Charing

Portland, OR based musician Alan Charing is celebrating the release of his first full-length in six years, Stitch, which follows up Notes for the Conversation, released under the moniker A.C. Cotton.

Stitch (LazyBone Records) also marks Alan Charing’s return to performing under his own name. Originally playing out as Alan Charing, and then The Alan Charing Controversy, he eventually decided to call the group A.C. Cotton to give it more of a band feeling.

The result was A.C. Cotton’s 2001 debut, Half Way Down (Ahab Was Right), followed in 2004 by Notes for the Conversation (Ahab Was Right). With Notes the band toured the West Coast relentlessly, before Charing decided to take a break from music and work on other endeavors.

Five years in the making, the result is Stitch, an eleven-track collection of rock ‘n’ roll that owes as much to Bruce Springsteen as it does The Rolling Stones.

Mixed by Mike Coykendall (M. Ward, Beth Orton, Richmond Fontaine), Stitch features members of Uncut Magazine favorites Fontaine, Laura Gibson‘s band, and other Northwest musicians to help Charing fill out the collection of roots-tingled, pop-coated Southern rock songs that would make Tom Petty sit back and smile.

You can hear tracks from and purchase Stitch at lazybones.com/alan_listen.html.
