SXSW: 40 Watt/JamBase Party

Featuring: The Whigs, Dead Confederate, Camper Van Beethoven

Saturday, March 20 / Noon to 8:00 p.m. / The Side Bar

SXSW is just around the corner and JamBase will be there. Not only will we be reporting daily on our musical discoveries, but we’ll be helping to sponsor a party with Athens, GA’s 40 Watt. Set for Saturday, March 20 from noon to 8 p.m. at the Side Bar, located at 602 E. 7th Street in Austin, TX, the show will feature The Whigs, Dead Confederate, Camper Van Beethoven, Warpaint, Twin Tigers, Modern Skirts, Packway Handle Band and a bunch of other great bands. The Whigs are proud to announce a number of upcoming events as they gear up for the release of their new album, IN THE DARK, out March 16 on ATO Records. Known for their enthralling live show, the Athens, GA trio is currently on tour with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club introducing fans to new material, which Filter Magazine has already hailed for “artfully combining the disenchanted swagger of ’70s punk with the infectious, catchy bounce of ’60s pop” and Maxim Magazine simply called “riff-tastic.” On April 1, The Whigs will make their return to The Late Show with David Letterman and will premiere raucous first single, “KILL ME CAROLYNE.” The song which brings a memorable strength to this exciting new collection is now available for free download on the bands official website – www.thewhigs.com. Following a co-headlining tour with the Band Of Skulls that starts March 31, The Whigs will make their Late Night with Jimmy Fallon debut April 27.

Athens, GA trio The Whigs are proud to return to The Late Show with David Letterman on March 31 in support of their upcoming album, In The Dark.

Set for a March 16 release on ATO Records, In The Dark, with its impressive range and undeniable vigor, sees The Whigs doing what all great bands do – furthering their artistic scope with each successive effort. Bursting with energy and emotion, The Whigs tear open the artistic envelope, bringing both nuance and eclectic strength to this exciting new collection of songs without losing the pedal-to-the-metal power that earned them universal praise as one of America’s finest young rock ‘n’ roll bands.

Beginning February 26 in Sacramento The Whigs will join Black Rebel Motorcycle Club for a three week North American tour. The band will also appear at this year’s South By Southwest Music Conference and will embark on a soon to be announced co-headlining tour in late March.

ATO Records and The Whigs are very excited to announce the release of the band’s new album, In The Dark. Set for a March 2, 2010 release, In The Dark is an explosive collection of intense and tuneful songs that have been developed through years of non-stop touring and two critically acclaimed albums – Give ‘Em All A Big Fat Lip and Mission Control.

Both an accessible album and one that captures The Whigs’ on-stage passion (something that has become synonymous with their live show), In The Dark reveals another layer in the band’s songwriting and highlights what fans and critics have fallen in love with, including Jon Pareles of The New York Times, who praised the band for their “two-chord guitar and drums furor worthy of The Who.”

From the driving guitars and crushing drums of “So Lonely” to the hypnotic and playful “Black Lotus,” from the reckless blitz and thuggish bass lines of “Someone’s Daughter” to the anthemic “Kill Me Carolyne,” In The Dark is the work of a band moving forward creatively while remaining true to their roots.
