Google March 17 has improved search and added a widget for the Google Latitude location-sharing application to Google Maps for mobile 4.1. Google has also begun putting ads from its local business partners on Google Maps pages in Australia and New Zealand. When users searching for information on businesses zoom in to Google Maps, participating businesses will be identified by a small representation of their logo. A smartphone capability tracker from researcher Ovum deemed GPS and Wi-Fi as hot, as they’re found on the majority of new smartphones. Internet widgets and rich Internet applications, while thought to have potential, were not. The iPhone and Android operating systems, for example, don’t yet support Flash.
