Dell Rolls Out Precision T1500 Workstation for SMBs

Dell is launching its Precision T1500 workstation for SMBs and AutoCAD users. The Precision T1500 is powered by the latest Core i7 chips from Intel, and offers a choice of AMD or Nvidia graphics cards. The workstation also is certified by Autodesk to run the AutoCAD design software.

Dell Workstation Features AMD ATI GPU

At the Siggraph 2009 show in New Orleans, Dell introduced its M6400 mobile workstation, which is powered by the ATI FirePro M7740 graphics accelerator from AMD. The announcements a day after HP unveiled configurations of its Z800 workstation that run on Nvidias Tesla GPUs, highlighting an increasing interest among workstation and HPC customers in systems running on graphics processing units.

Chip Shot: Intel Launches New Low Power Xeon 5500 Series Chip

Intel has today announced a new low voltage version of the Intel Xeon 5500 series processor – the Intel Xeon L5530 processor improves the frequency of 60W LV Xeon 5500 SKUs running at 2.40GHz providing performance per watt improvements in blades and high-density computing. Additionally a dual-socket workstation chip was announced: The Intel Xeon W5590 processor running at 3.33GHz; and two single-socket workstation chips, the W3580 running at 3.33GHz and the W3550 running at 3.06GHz, all improving performance in threaded and non-threaded workstation environments. HP Workstation Comes With Nvidia Tesla GPUs

HP is offering configurations of its Z800 workstation with Nvidias Tesla graphics processors. The move comes at a time when Nvidia is aggressively pushing GPUs into the HPC field, and other chip makers in particular, AMD and Intel are looking to expand their graphics chips capabilities. In addition, hardware makers like Appro are offering CPU and GPU technologies in their systems aimed at the HPC space.
