EMC Reports 54 Percent Jump in YOY Profits

The company’s stock price rose 76 cents a share to $17.70 after the report was issued. Overall revenue was up 2 percent to $4.1 billion, compared to the $4 billion the company forecast.

Container shipping volumes up 23% y-o-y from Oct 17–Nov 13 says NOL

Container shipper Neptune Orient Lines says for the 4 weeks from Oct 17 to Nov 13 (Period 11), container shipping volumes increased 23% y-o-y to 208,000 FEU (Forty-foot Equivalent Unit) while average revenue per FEU declined 28% y-o-y to US$2,239 ($3,109).

The increase in volume was mainly due to higher volumes lifted in several trade lanes. Lower average revenue per FEU was due to lower core freight rates and lower bunker recovery.

P11 YTD, 2009 container shipping volumes declined 12% to 1,976,200 FEU while average revenue per FEU declined 24% to US$2,301 over P11 YTD, 2008 levels.

Visitor arrivals fall 0.5% y-o-y in October

Singapore’s visitor arrivals fell 0.5% in October from a year ago to 845,000, the Singapore Tourism Board said today.

In October, nine out of Singapore’s top 15 visitor arrival markets posted growth over October 2008.

China registered its first growth of 8.4% since May 2008, spurred by an unusual eight-day Golden Week holiday.

Hong Kong SAR posted the largest percentage growth at 27.4% among the top 15 markets due to attractive travel package promotions.

Malaysia (+26.2%), Vietnam (+11.8%), Australia (+7.6%), Thailand (+5.2%), Germany (+3.7%), the USA (+2.8%) and the UK (+2.3%) all saw growth this month.
