Serbia, Croatia in joint science projects

The joint Serbian and Croatian commission for scientific and technological cooperation met on Friday in Zagreb and prepared a list of 32 science projects.

Serbian Assistant Science and Technological Development Minister Viktor Nedović told Tanjug that 73 applications had been received and 32 were selected, mainly in the field of biotechnology.

Cases to be prosecuted after Hague

Hague Tribunal Judge Fausto Pocar said in Zagreb, Croatia, on Monday that the court was nearing the final phase of its work. He noted that after it had shut down, the prosecution of war crimes would be continued by relevant courts in the countries of the region.

Memorial service for Croat Nazi leader

“Genocide suit should not sour relations”

Croatian President Ivo Josipović says there is no reason for Croatia’s response to Serbia’s genocide countersuit to jeopardize the good relations. Commenting on Croatia’s response at the International Court of Justice on Dec. 20, Josipović told reporters in Zagreb that the response is “part of the normal process that is unfolding,” and that “nothing really spectacular has happened.”

Croatian Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor on Monday dismissed four ministers from her cabinet, said reports from Zagreb. They include ministers of defense, finance, environment and culture.

Ex-Croatian PM used money to control media

Former Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader used part of illegally obtained money to “control the media”, Zagreb-based daily Večernji list reports.

More than EUR 700,000 was paid to the local media, Osijek TV and Zadar-based weekly Hrvatski list, the daily writes.

The Croatian prosecution has submitted a request for an investigation to be launched against Tomislav Merčep. The 58-year-old wartime deputy Croatian interior minister was arrested on Friday in Zagreb, and placed in two-day custody.

Merčep’s name has been mentioned in connection to several war crimes, reports Croatia’s state television HRT. He has never been indicted.

Convicted war criminal arrested

Croatian politician and former high ranking army officer Branimir Glavaš was arrested in Bosnia-Herzegovina on Tuesday.

GlavaÅ¡ holds both Croatian and Bosnian citizenships, and was found guilty and sentenced to eight years in prison in Zagreb for 1991 war crimes committed against Croatia’s ethnic Serb civilians.

Macedonian railways to join Cargo 10

Macedonia Railways will join Cargo 10, a joint company of the Serbian, Croatian and Slovenian state railway companies. This new addition to the joint project was decided at a meeting of the representatives of the Cargo 10 alliance in Zagreb, Croatian Railways (HZZ) stated.

Water polo squad wins bronze medal

The Serbian water polo national team won the bronze medal at the European Championship in Zagreb. They defeated Hungary in the bronze medal match 10:8, after losing to Croatia in the semifinals.
